Uncover the idea.

Behind these numbers, a brilliant mind left you a message. Each number stands for a letter — crack the pattern and the quote gives itself up, one letter at a time.

Three moves and the message is yours.

  1. Meet the cipher

Every letter of a hidden quote has been swapped for a number. A few come pre-solved — that's your way in.

  2. Make your call

Pick a number and name its letter. Right, and it locks in for good. Wrong, and it counts against you — you get two mistakes before a third ends the run, so trust the clues.

  3. Read the message

Fill the last cell and the whole quote snaps into place — a line worth keeping. Then a new mystery is waiting.

More than a word game.

Real quotes, real minds

Behind every puzzle is a genuine line from science, philosophy or art. You're decoding Einstein and Socrates here, not random word soup.

It grows with you

The sharper you get, the fewer letters you start with. Grab a free account and no quote comes back until you've cracked them all.

A quiet few minutes

No ticking timers, no clutter, no noise — just you, the cipher, and a quiet little win.

The unexamined life is not worth living.

— Socrates

This is what's waiting at the end of the cipher.

Questions, answered.

What is a cryptogram?

A cryptogram is a short piece of text — usually a famous quote — hidden behind a simple letter-substitution cipher. Every letter of the alphabet is swapped for a number, and you solve it by working out which letter each number stands for.

Is it free to play?

Completely. As a guest you get five puzzles a day with no sign-up at all. Make a free account and the daily cap disappears — plus quotes won't repeat until you've cracked every one.

Do I need to create an account?

Nope — guests jump straight in. A free account just lifts the daily limit and adds no-repeat quotes, so you won't meet the same one twice until you've solved them all.

How do I solve a cryptogram?

A few letters start revealed to give you a foothold. Hunt for short words, common letters and repeated patterns, then work out the rest one letter at a time — but choose carefully: you get two mistakes before a third ends the puzzle. Fewer letters come free as you get sharper.

What languages can I play in?

English and Montenegrin — every quote comes in both, so you can decode in whichever you like.
